Confucius Institute at University of Miskolc Holds 5th Anniversary Celebration

On October 11th local time, the Confucius Institute at the University of Miskolc, Hungary, celebrated its fifth anniversary. Zita Horváth, Deputy Secretary of State for Higher Education Affairs, Ministry of Human Resources, Miskolc Mayor Ákos Kriza, Nóra Jakab, Vice President of the University of Miskolc, Chancellor Csaba Deák, Duan Jielong, Chinese Ambassador to Hungary, Liu Junchang, President of Wanhua-BorsodChem and Ren Xingang, Vice President of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, attended the event along with nearly 100 teachers and students from the university.

At the opening ceremony, Nóra Jakab gave a welcome speech. Subsequently, Duan Jielong highly praised the achievements of the Confucius Institute at the University of Miskolc in the past five years and placed high hopes that the Confucius Institute will make greater contributions to the mutual understanding and friendly exchanges between the Chinese and Hungarian people.

Zita Horváth said in his speech that the Confucius Institute is an important channel for cultural exchanges between the two countries. It not only plays an important role in the promotion of Chinese culture in the local area, but also becomes a good partner with Wanhua. The Hungarian government will continue to provide support to both sides in bringing cultural exchanges to a higher level.

Kriza said that the Confucius Institute at the University of Miskolc is one of the important achievements in the friendly cooperation between Miskolc and China. The city is open for deepening cooperation with China and hopes that the two sides will further strengthen communication and cooperation in various fields.

Csaba Deák said in his speech that Chinese teaching and increasingly rich cultural activities in the past five years have gradually enhanced the local reputation of the Confucius Institute and become an important window for local people to understand China and Chinese culture. More and more citizens have expressed their interest and fondness for Chinese culture. The University of Miskolc is proud of the establishment of the Confucius Institute.

Liu Jie, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute, said that the Confucius Institute, jointly run by the three parties under the principle of consultation and joint management and construction, has combined the profound academic atmosphere of the University of Miskolc and Beijing University of Chemical Technology as well as the development plan of Wan Hua Group and Borsod Industrial Park and formed its own unique and distinctive characteristics, receiving good social response from China and Hungary.

Liu Junchang said in his speech that the three parties, Miskolc University, Beijing University of Chemical Technology and Wanhua Group reached a consensus on the construction goals of the Confucius Institute, and the initiative of jointly building the Confucius Institute with Chinese enterprises was approved and praised by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban).

Ren Xingang said that the Confucius Institute at the University of Miskolc, with the strong support of the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), under the common care of the three parties, and under the cultivation of successive Confucius Institute members, has grown stronger and made gratifying achievements.

During the meeting, Nóra Jakab presented the Special Contribution Award to Zhu Xiaoyuan, the former Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute, and highly praised his efforts for the development of the Confucius Institute.

After the meeting, Duan Jielong visited the Confucius Institute and enjoyed the Chinese paintings and Wing Chun performed by the students.

In August 2013, the Confucius Institute at the University of Miskolc was established under the impetus of the University of Miskolc, Beijing University of Chemical Technology and Wan Hua-Borsod Group. In the past five years, several generations of Confucius Institutes members have built on the past achievements and made great efforts to enable the Confucius Institutes achieve outstanding results in the promotion of Chinese culture, corporate exchanges and cooperation, academic research, and the building of China-Hungary friendship. The Confucius Institute will continue to grow and develop under the cooperation of many parties and make greater contributions to the friendship between China and Hungary.
