On the morning of October 11th, the press conference and launching ceremony for the 11th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students was held at the studio of the School of Music and Dance in Yunnan Normal University. The competition, under the theme of Learn Chinese, Double Your World, was hosted by Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and the People’s Government of Yunnan Province, and organized by Yunnan Provincial Education Department, Yunnan Normal University, and Yunnan Radio and Television Station. The press conference and launching ceremony was attended by Huang Yi, Vice-Chairman and Party Member of Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; Zhao Guocheng, Deputy Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters and Deputy Director-General of Hanban; Zhou Rong, Director-General of Yunnan Provincial Education Department; Chen Shibo, Supervisor-General of the Education Supervision Committee of the People’s Government of Yunnan Province; Rao Wei, Chair of the University Council of Yunnan Normal University; Jiang Yongwen, President of Yunnan Normal University, and He Yaning, Secretary of Party Committee and Director of Yunnan Radio and Television Station, and other guests.

The competition this time will be attended by 216 contestants and 111 team-leading teachers from 110 divisions of 99 countries around the world, which will make it the largest event compared with previous ones, with the largest number of participating countries and participants. Lai Yong, Director of the News and Network Publicity and Management Department of the Information Office of the People's Government of Yunnan Province, presided over the press conference. Supervisor-General Chen Shibo introduced the competition system and innovation highlights in the competition. Bo Anna from the Confucius Institute at the University of Western Australia spoke on behalf of the contestants and shared her experiences in learning Chinese. In closing, the guests and the representatives from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Ireland, the United States, Cameroon and Australia scattered the golden sands on the stage, marking the official launch of the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students.

Amid “Auld Lang Syne”, which was performed by Farmer's Chorus of Miao Ethnic Groups in Xiaoshuijing, Fumin County and international students of Yunnan Normal University, the launching ceremony of this competition was successfully concluded. In the following days, all the contestants will have the three “crossing bridges” competition including Chinese and Chinese cultural knowledge written test, oral communication skills and Chinese talent competition. They will compete for the top 20 seats, then work their way through to the final for the grand champion.
