Traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony at ROBOkids

On August 31st, 2018, the Confucius Institute at the University of Banja Luka together with ROBOkids organized an event, Traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony, at ROBOkids in Banja Luka. All the staff members attended this activity. The event lasted for nearly one and half an hour. More than 30 kids and their parents took part in the activity.

At the very beginning, Marija·Sobot· Babic, the director of ROBOkids had a short interview with the Chinese Director Cai Ying about the history and varieties of Chinese tea and the habits of Chinese people drinking tea. Director Cai Ying mentioned that Chinese tea could be subcategorized into six varieties and the history of Chinese tea drinking could be traced back at least 4,000 years ago.

Director Cai Ying recommended the audience to have a try of Tieguanyin, one type of Oolong tea and gave a explanation on the reason why Oolong tea rather than other varieties. Oolong tea is supposed to be a good one to drink during autumn season thanks to its features and it helps to lower the risk of high blood pressure and cancers.

Afterwards, Cai Ying presented a traditional tea ceremony. After watching, smelling and trying it, the audience was surprised to find that each brewing of the tea tasted a little bit difference.


Introduction on how to tell the quality of tea leaves

Impressed by the steps of tea art ceremony, many questions were put forwarded by the audience to which Cai Ying gave answers in detail to satisfy their curiosity. The audience were eager to find out why the first brewing was discarded and they were also impressed to find that the shape of dried tea leaves is also one of the standards for rating the quality of the tea.

After the event, all the participants commented that the event helped them learn more about Chinese tea and they would make use of the information to help them choose top quality tea leaves and drink different teas in different seasons while taking consideration of their own health conditions.
