On September 24th, the “Song of the Silk Road” Tagore Poetry Reading in Chinese was held at the Confucius Institute at University of Dhaka (DU) in Bangladesh.

This poetry reading serves as an important part of the opening day of Confucius Institute at DU and the third China-Bangladesh Cultural and Art Exchange Festival, attracting students from the Confucius Institute and the Chinese Department at the Institute of Modern Languages of DU.

Under the accompaniment of melodious Chinese music, Bangladeshi students’ reading of Tagore’s poems in Chinese was cadenced and rich in feeling. The interpretation in Chinese with their own understanding had added different flavor to the classic poems such as the First Jasmines, Benediction, and selections from Gitanjali and Stray Birds.

The brilliant performance of contestants won warm applause from the audience. Zhou Mingdong, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at DU, and Bangladeshi Director Shishir read Paper Boat in Chinese and Bengali respectively for the audience.

Tai Chi, the song “Grandma’s Pengpu Bay” by teachers and students, and other performances were arranged at the poetry reading, bringing the atmosphere to climax.
