CI at SF State began promoting the Summer Camp program across northern California in December 2017. After collecting and reviewing all applications, the Confucius Institute got Hanban’s final approval for 22 students from University Preparatory School, Hayward High School and Justin-Siena High School, and a few from other schools. All accepted students have learned Chinese for a couple of years. This summer camp provides a great opportunity for them to visit China and experience Chinese culture in person and to learn more beyond the textbooks, which makes the students extremely excited.

At Beijing Normal University, instructors helped the students enhance their pronunciation and learn new words; senior artists presented paper-cutting arts and skills in writing calligraphy and showed them Tai Chi movements. After taking those classes, the students learned to order Chinese food in restaurant, communicate with Chinese students, and explore the ancient Chinese culture in Hutong and the Great Wall. How time flies! The students gained knowledge, opened up their view of the world, made friends and had unforgettable memories about China.
