First Overseas "Chinese Celadon Culture Classroom" Set Up in Chonburi, Thailand

On July 31st, the opening ceremony for the first overseas "Chinese Celadon Culture Classroom" was held at the Public International School in Chonburi, Thailand. The “Chinese Celadon Culture Classroom” was jointly established by Confucius Institute at Burapha University, the Chonburi Public Education Charity Promotion Society, the Chinese Celadon College and the Longquan Celadon Collaborative Innovation Center of Zhejiang Province, China, which aims to familiarize more Thai people with celadon culture so as to provide the vast number of ceramic enthusiasts and experts in Thailand with a more extensive and in-depth communication platform.

Payom Chinnawong, Secretary-General of the Office of Private Education Commission and the Education Commissioner of the Ministry of Education, Sukanit Piyavittayanon, former Director of the Special Policy School Division of the Private Education Commission, Liang Bing, Chairman of the Chinese School Association, Zhang Donghao, Counselor of Overseas Chinese Affairs of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, as well as more than 300 people including leaders of Thailand’s relevant associations and overseas Chinese organizations, ceramics experts, and representatives of teachers and students from China and Thailand attended the ceremony.

At the opening ceremony, Wilai Limthawaranun, Thai Director of the Confucius Institute at Burapha University, and the Chinese Director Zhang Yulin said in a joint speech that Thailand and China enjoy geographical proximity, close blood ties, and cultural connectivity. Bilateral friendly exchanges boast a long history, with celadon being one of the witnesses.

Besides, experts from Chinese Celadon College launched the Chinese Celadon Culture Classroom and the China-Thailand Celadon Seminar.

With the deepening of China-Thailand cultural exchanges and the promotion of the Belt and Road Initiative, the Confucius Institute at Burapha University has continuously incorporated more Chinese culture into China-Thailand cultural exchanges based on the teaching of Chinese language and the exchanges of traditional Chinese medicine. The “China Celadon Culture Classroom” is dedicated to the exchange activities of ceramic culture between the two countries, including Chinese celadon exhibitions, cultural lectures on Chinese celadon, academic seminars, and exchanges and communication activities between teachers and students in China and Thailand, which will greatly stimulate Thai students’ interests in learning Chinese and experiencing Chinese culture.
