CI Ljubljana Successfully Hosts 5th Slovenian Chinese Bridge Competition for Secondary School Students

On May 25th, 2018, the 5th Slovenian Chinese Bridge competition for secondary school students was successfully hosted by the Confucius Institute Ljubljana at Jožeta Plečnika High School Ljubljana. Fourteen contestants from six high schools in four cities across the country attended the competition. Mr. Wu Chunlai, Director of the Political Department of the Chinese Embassy in Slovenia, Ms. Katja Kolšek, Project Manager of CI Ljubljana, and Ms. Ma Xing, Head Chinese teacher of the CI Ljubljana were invited to be the judges. At the same time, the teachers and staff of the CI, as well as the family and friends of the contestants, also came to cheer up.

Firstly, a welcome speech was delivered by Ms. Lidija Žigon, Principal of Jožeta Plečnika High School Ljubljana. In the speech, she announced the opening of the 5th Slovenian Chinese Bridge Competition for secondary school students and encouraged more Slovenian students to learn Chinese and Chinese culture.

The competition is divided into three parts: speech, talent show and knowledge quiz. Around the theme "Learn Chinese, Double Your World", the contestants gave their speeches, sharing the reasons for learning Chinese, and the interesting Chinese culture they’ve learned. In the talent show session, all the contestants brought their excellent performances. Except calligraphy performance, Chinese songs, piano, cucurbit and Ukulele playing, there were also traditional Chinese dance with traditional costumes and Chen style Kungfu fan show, which brought a stunning audio-visual feast to the audience and became the highlight of the whole competition. During the quiz, all the contestants pleasantly surprised the audience with their profound knowledge of Chinese national conditions, culture and language.

In the end, contestants Pia Pajnič from Jožeta Plečnika High School Ljubljana, Katarina Rozman from Kranj High School, and Nika Kramberger from Maribor Second High School respectively won the first, second and third prize of the 5th Slovenian Chinese Bridge competition for secondary school students.

The annual Chinese Bridge competition for secondary school students has successfully concluded. All the contestants said that they have made more friends who are also interested in Chinese and learned more about Chinese culture through this competition.

The successful conclusion of the competition will attract more and more Slovenian students to learn Chinese language and culture.
