Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute Holds a Theme Conference “Promoting Thai Education and Embracing New Opportunities in Developing EEC”

On April 25th, a theme conference, “Promoting the Development of Thailand Education and Embracing New Opportunities for EEC” was jointly held in the Thai Ministry of Science and Technology by the Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute, the Thai Ministry of Science and Technology, the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and the Vocational Education Committee of Thailand.

A total number of 223 people attended the conference,including Suvit Maesincee,Science and Technology Minister of Thailand, Chao KhunThongchai, President of the Council of Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute, Song Ruoyun,First Secretary of Education Office of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, and representatives from the Vocational Education Committee, principals and teachers from vocational institutes,and representatives of college, middle and primary school students.

At the conference, Suvit gave a speech with the topic “Cultivating Thailand’s 4.0 Professionals, Embracing New Opportunities in Developing EEC”. In his speech, he said that EEC and Thailand 4.0 Development Strategy are of vital importance to facilitating Thailand’s transformation and development. Therefore, the key to foster the two development strategies is to cultivate talents. The Ministry of Science and Technology will cooperate with the Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute and the vocational institutes, totaling over 70, that have signed contracts with Chinese vocational institutes. Together they will train more professionals in ten professions, including AI, aviation and space, comprehensive health-care system, IO economy, digital industry, etc. as a response to the demand for talents in EEC development.

Later, the Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute signed cooperation agreements with 8 vocational institutes in 3 northern districts of the Vocational Education Committee of Thailand.

At the conference, Kanit Sangsubhan, Secretary General of the EEC, was invited to give a theme lecture. His lecture was titled “Demands for Professionals in Developing EEC”, addressing such issues as the educational condition in EEC regions, development tasks in the first five-year investment plan and demands for professionals with Chinese proficiency in the development of EEC. He proposed directions and models for future cooperation with Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute, urging students to study in vocational institutes and go to China to learn and experience.

In the end, delegates from the Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute discussed, according to the content of the lecture, with the representatives of the Vocational Education Committee, inquiring about the needs for Chinese learning in vocational institutes and about the shortage of local Chinese teachers. Wang Shangxue, Chinese acting director of the Confucius Institute, said that the Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute will provide excellent talent resource for the development of the EEC with advantages of teacher training of Tianjin Normal University, the Chinese sponsor.
