“Chinese Bridge” Competition Held in Spain

On May 6th, the Spain Regional Final of the 17th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students and the 11th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students were held at the Confucius Institute in Madrid. Sixteen secondary school and college students from different regions of Spain participated in the competition.

The competition had several sections, including “One World, One Family” theme speech, impromptu Q&A, and talent show. After intense competition, Aida Guzman, a student from the Confucius Institute at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Juan de Quesada, won the college group championship, and Claudia Lara, a student from the Confucius Classroom at Andalusia, won the secondary school group championship.

Lv Fan, Chinese Ambassador to Spain, awarded medals to the champions and wished them good performances in the coming final.

The “Chinese bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition, held by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), has become a well-known brand and an important platform for foreign students to learn Chinese language and culture. In recent years, there has been a growing enthusiasm for learning Chinese language in Spain. Eight Confucius Institutes have been established in Spain. Over 40 colleges and 200 secondary and primary schools are now offering Chinese courses, and more than 40,000 Spanish are learning Chinese.
