Mr Duncan Acorlor, a level 400 student of the University of Ghana-Legon, has emerged winner of the 17th Chinese Bridge Preliminary competition.

This qualifies him to represent Ghana on a sponsored travel in the world competition, to be held in China.

Ms Jacqueline Sekyi, the first runner-up and also a level 400 student of the University of Ghana, had as her prize, a sponsored trip to China, to watch the world competition.

The event, held on Friday, May 4, 2018 by the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, involved 18 contestants from five different tertiary institutions.

The universities were; the University of Ghana-Legon, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the University of Cape Coast, the Kumasi Technical University and the Wisconsin University College.

This year's competition, which is the fifth to be held by the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, was on the theme, 'One World One Family.' and consisted of a written test and a speech, followed by questions from the Judges, as well as a Chinese and Ghanaian cultural display.

Mr. Acorlor, the winner of the competition, said in an interview, that he was excited about his win, and looked forward to doing his best in the World Competition as a representative of Ghana.

Miss Sekyi encouraged people who were interested in learning Chinese to pursue their goal as much as they could, because studying Chinese opened one up to academic as well as employment opportunities, besides the opportunity to have a completely foreign cultural experience.

The winner, Mr. Acorlor, stands the chance to earn a Confucius Institute scholarship, for a two-year master's degree programme, depending on his performance at the World competition.
