In an interview with Sputnik News, Liu Hui, Director of the Overseas Publicity Department of People’s Daily Online, stated that People’s Daily Online and TV BRICS had jointly schemed and made cultural video series called “Confucius Institutes in Russia—Cultural Disseminators Along ‘The Belt and Road’”. Now, the program has been on the air via TV BRICS and local TV stations.

The video producers visited seven cities in Russia, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ryazan, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Volgograd, shooting eleven Confucius Institutes from these cities and filming the dissemination of the Chinese culture in Russia through lenses.

Liu said: “The TV program is designed to choose Confucius Institutes as a unique perspective to glimpse into the breadth and depth of cultural exchanges between the two countries and into the solid foundation of public opinions for the Belt and Road Initiative. This program isn’t confined to describing the development of Confucius Institutes in Russia. At the same time, it digs into some true stories about students from Confucius Institutes who have had their lives and fates changed by learning the Chinese language and culture.”

She added that this program, including the original Russian version and its Chinese translation version would be broadcast soon. It could be watched through People’s Daily Online, and some local TV stations in Russia.

2016-2017 is the Media Exchange Year between China and Russia. During this two-year exchange, Chinese and Russian media outlets have developed efficient cooperation and perfectly fulfilled a series of cooperation agreements within the framework of the Exchange Year. The cooperation between the Chinese and Russian media has exerted positive effects on strengthening the friendship and advancing the relations between the two countries.
