Working Together to Build a New Silk Road, Turning a New Page in Vocational Education of China and Thailand——Inauguration Ceremony of China-Thailand Vocational Education Association Kicks off

On the morning of April 19th, the Inauguration Ceremony of China-Thailand Vocational Education Association and Seminar on the Development of China-Thailand and Higher Vocational Education, sponsored by Education Commission of Chongqing Municipality and co-hosted by Confucius Institute at Khon Kaen University and Chongqing Vocational Institute of Engineering, was held at Chongqing Vocational Institute of Engineering.

Guests from the Thai Ministry of Education included Narunaat, Member of the Office Committee of the Minister of Education, Khajornsak, Adviser to the Minister of Education and Sarojn, Adviser to the Office of Vocational Education Commission. Among other attendees were Li Shiyu, Special Envoy of Education Commission of Chongqing Municipality and Director of the International Office of Education Commission of Chongqing Municipality, Li Yuanjie, Vice Chairman of the Jiangjin District Political Consultative Conference, Zhang Fajun, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges of Southwest University and Hu Lin, Chinese Director of Confucius Institute at Khon Kaen University, as well as leaders from 18 universities in Thailand, representatives of more than 20 higher vocational colleges in China, and representatives of Chinese and Thai companies.

At the ceremony, Narunaat read the congratulatory letter from Surachet, Deputy Minister of Education in charge of vocational education. Surachet extended sincere congratulations to the inauguration of the China-Thailand Vocational Education Association. He pointed out that it is a major measure in response to Thailand 4.0 and the “Belt and Road” initiative and will make significant contributions to the development of the two countries.

In his speech, Khajornsak noted that the “Belt and Road” initiative is highly compatible with Thailand 4.0 and the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). The inauguration will make coordinated use of various resources and promote the development of vocational institutes in Thailand. It will encourage multicultural exchanges between the two countries, and greatly solve the shortage of talents with vocational skills in Thailand. Therefore, it enjoys great attention of the Thai Ministry of Education. It is hoped that the Association will work pragmatically in the future, establish a sound communication mechanism and run more bilateral in-depth cooperation projects. It is also counted it will innovate forms of cooperation, integrate resources, pursue common development and develop with help from the government and enterprises so as to work jointly to promote cooperation and exchanges of vocational education in Thailand and China.

Li Shiyu pointed out in her speech that she hoped that the vocational institutes in China and Thailand would take the inauguration as a new starting point for cooperation and a new platform for exchanges, so as to work together to water the flower of vocational education cooperation between China and Thailand and share the fruits of the cooperation

Nirutt, Thai President of the Association and Director of Udon Thani Vocational Institute, said in his speech that he will promote the work of the Association in Thailand and make efforts and contributions to its development. At the same time, he hoped that the Thai Ministry of Education and relevant departments of the Chinese government will vigorously support the development of the Association. It is hoped that the Confucius Institute at Khon Kaen University will continue to provide assistance as always and the vocational institutes can actively cooperate with each other, in a bid to jointly promote the development of vocational education in China and Thailand.

Later on, Hu Lin made a report titled Confucius Institute's Role in China-Thailand Vocational Education at the Conference on the Development of China-Thailand Higher Vocational Education. She pointed out that the Confucius Institute at Khon Kaen University and Chinese colleges and universities’ initiation of the China-Thailand Vocational Education Association comes in response to the “One Belt and One Road” initiative. The Confucius Institute will launch special Chinese language training in the exchange of vocational education between China and Thailand. The program is designed to cultivate compound talents with a high level of Chinese proficiency in professional skills and to contribute to the economic development of China and Thailand.

Participants also conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the status quo of the development of vocational education in both countries, how to promote their major policies through the international exchanges and development of vocational education, and the role of Confucius Institutes in vocational education cooperation between China and Thailand.


The Association officially established

The Association elected the first board of directors consisting of Chinese and Thailand directors and passed the Constitution of China-Thailand Vocational Education Association. At the ceremony, the Association made work plans, such as jointly hosting the China-Thailand Vocational Education Exhibition, providing long- and short-term exchanging tours and joint training programs for students and teachers among league institutions, setting up special vocational courses for students and building vocational and technical training bases.

After the ceremony, Hu led the delegation of the Thai Ministry of Education to visit Southwest University and exchanged opinions with them on the cooperation between China-Thailand Vocational Education Association and Southwest University. The delegation also visited a number of Chinese league universities and colleges such as Chongqing Business Vocational College and Chongqing Water Resources and Electric Engineering College. Thai representatives spoke highly of the development and construction of Chinese vocational colleges. With the help of the Confucius Institute, many Thai colleges and universities reached the cooperation agreement with Chinese counterparts.

Sarojn also organized the representatives of Thai colleges to hold the Thai board of directors of the Association and reached consensus as follows: first, inviting Hu Lin to communicate with Surachet about the Association; second, under the guidance of the Confucius Institute at Khon Kaen University, setting up a sound working mechanism and establishing a network communication platform for the Association as soon as possible; third, holding the first Thai conference of the Association in the Confucius Institute in the near future to promote the Association and expand its influence in vocational colleges across Thailand; forth, hoping that the Confucius Institute at Khon Kaen University will advance and support Chinese teaching in Thai vocational colleges.

The establishment of the China-Thailand Vocational Education Association marks the cooperation between vocational colleges in China and Thailand entering the fast track of development and ushers a new era, which has built one more bridge of friendship for the exchanges between the two countries.
