2018 Spring Camp of Confucius Institute at Kalmyk State University Concluded

From March 25th to 30th, local time, the Confucius Institute at the Kalmyk State University hosted in Elista, capital of Kalmyk Republic, Russia, a week-long spring camp, in which 76 campers from the states of Moscow, Lipetsk and Astrakhan and other regions participated. Badmaev Vasilyevich, Vice Premier of Kalmyk Republic and Salaev Badma Katinovich, President of the Kalmyk State University attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches respectively.

In his speech, Badmaev Vasilyevich expressed his gratitude to the Kalmyk State University and the Confucius Institute for their joint efforts in hosting the activity, conveying the message that the republican government will consistently support them to cooperate more and promote more cultural activities in the future.

Salaev Badma Katinovich said that learning Chinese is conducive to Russian students’ future career development and that the Confucius Institute at the Kalmyk State University, the only in Russia’s Southern Federation, provides a favorable condition for learning Chinese.

This spring camp includes “Access to Chinese Classroom” and “Experiencing Chinese Culture”. In the Chinese class, teachers from the Confucius Institute trained campers by dividing them into different classes in accordance with their different levels of Chinese proficiency. In the class of “Experiencing Chinese Culture”, campers learned Chinese shadow boxing (taijiquan) and Chinese calligraphy, and also experienced Chinese tea arts, Chinese go, kicking shuttlecock and Chinese knotting, all of which brought great sense of pleasure to participants.

In the closing evening party, Salaev Badma Katinovich and Chinese and Russian directors of the Confucius Institute awarded honorary certificates to those campers who excelled in this event. The trainees expressed that they have acquired a lot of knowledge about the Chinese language and its profound culture and hope to have a firsthand experience in China in the future.
