Serve as Cultural Envoys and Show the Silk Road Spirit—Confucius Institute at University of Bucharest Holds “Belt and Road” Photo Exhibition

On February 2nd local time, a photo exhibition entitled "The Belt and Road" was opened at the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. Among the attendees were Mircea Dumitru, Rector of the University of Bucharest, Zhao Li, Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Romania, Luminița Bălan, Romanian Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest and Dong Jingbo, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest.

At the opening ceremony, Mircea Dumitru expressed that the event fully displayed the non-interrupted economic and cultural exchanges between China and countries along “Belt and Road”, and these exchanges are being continually advanced and getting more and more extensive.

He also reviewed the active participation from the University of Bucharest in promoting the exchanges between both sides and its cooperation with China University of Political Science and Law in establishing the Confucius Institute. He pointed out that in recent years, the university has maintained close cooperation with more and more Chinese universities and research institutions, hoping to further enhance such cooperation.

In Zhao Li’s speech, he said that culture has no borders, and cultural exchanges could cross borders, enhance mutual understanding, expand the horizons, and enable people to learn from each other with an open and inclusive attitude. These are the keys to creating a better future for mankind.

Luminița Bălan summed up the contributions made by the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest to promoting the cultural exchanges between China and Romania in recent years. Dong Jingbo said that through teaching Chinese language and spreading Chinese culture, the Confucius Institute has made great efforts to the “heart-to-heart connection” between the two peoples. He hopes that through this photo exhibition, visitors could know more about China.

Later, teachers and students of the Confucius Institute presented splendid performances, such as classical dancing, guzheng, cucurbit, Tai Chi and Cheongsam show. Students of the Romanian Sports High School and the Poet School brought poem reciting and chorus, which won a warm applause from the audience.

The exhibition, lasting for one month, fully displayed the connotations, achievements and far-reaching significance of the “Belt and Road” initiative through four sessions, which were The “Belt and Road” Major Events—Summit Forum, The “Belt and Road” Fine Views—Legend Path, The “Belt and Road” Project—Same Dream Shared by Seas and Mountains and The “Belt and Road” Humanity— Silk Road Bond. There were some physical models provided by Chinese enterprises in Romania during the whole exhibition.

With the accelerating construction of “Belt and Road” initiative, the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest will continue to forge ahead and give play to its own advantages, so as to promote the exchanges between Chinese and Romanian civilization.
