Second Confucius Institute Opens in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Confucius Institute at the University of Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina was inaugurated in Banja Luka, the capital of the Serb Republic a few days ago. It is the country’s second Confucius Institute and was jointly established by Tianjin University of Technology and Education of China and the University of Banja Luka.

Milorad Dodik, President of the Serb Republic, Zhao Haishan, Vice Mayor of Tianjin, Chen Bo, Chinese Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina and others attended the opening ceremony. Dodik said in his speech that the establishment of the Confucius Institute at the University of Banja Luka represents an achievement of everlasting friendship and cooperative development between the Serb Republic and China as well as an additional move of China’s Belt and Road Initiative in the field of people-to-people bonds, being of great significance. It is hoped that the Confucius Institute could play a bridging role in spreading Chinese culture.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Sarajevo, the country’s first, was officially established in 2015. Up till now, this Confucius Institute has established multiple Chinese language teaching sites in Sarajevo.
