2018 Chinese New Year Wushu Culture Festival and International Chinese Wushu Invitational Tournament Held at Belarusian State University of Physical Education

On January 27th, on the occasion of the approaching Chinese lunar new year, the Confucius Classroom at Belarusian State University of Physical Education held the Second Chinese New Year Wushu Culture Festival and International Chinese Wushu Invitational Tournament at the school’s gymnasium. The event attracted nearly a thousand locals to participate and aimed to highlight the Confucius Classroom’s characteristics of school running and enhance the understanding of the people of the region about Chinese Wushu culture.

С Воронюк, Chair of Youth Union (the predecessor was the Communist Youth League) of Minsk Voblast, Belarus, A.A маевская, Deputy Head of the Central District of Minsk City, С.В Шаврук, Executive Vice Presi-dent of Belarusian State University of Physical Education, and Li Wenhua, First Secretary of the Education Office of Chinese Embassy in Belarus, were present at the event and addressed at the opening ceremony. The guests expressed that the tournament enables the youngsters to better understand Chinese traditional culture while at the same time strengthen the exchanges and communication between the youth of various countries by inviting the neighboring countries to the tournament.

The performance team of Lingnan Normal University of China showed the Chinese dragon dance, southern lion dance and collective Wushu performance at the opening ceremony amid a lively atmosphere.

207 competitors of 17 teams from Belarus, Russia, Uzbekistan, Latvia and Lithuania participated in the Wushu Tournament. The competitors were divided into the junior group, which was further divided into a subgroup of children under 6 years old, a group of children from 7 to 8 years old and a group of children from 9 to 14 years old, the youth group (15 to 17 years old) and adult group (above 18 years old). There were five items including set routines for international Wushu, long fist, Wushu instruments, traditional fist and traditional Wushu instruments.

Besides, a Chinese culture temple fair was held at the hall of the gymnasium. The attendees tried activities including Chinese calligraphy, tea art, lion dance, paper cutting and face painting.
