Second Confucius Institute in Bosnia and Herzegovina Inaugurated

The Confucius Institute at University of Banja Luka was inaugurated on January 21st in Banja Luka, the capital of the Serbian Republic, marking the second such institute established in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is jointly built by Tianjin University of Technology and Education in China and the University of Banja Luka.

Milorad Dodik, President of the Serbian Republic; Zhao Haishan, Vice Mayor of Tianjin, who is currently on a visit to the country, Chen Bo Chinese Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina and others, attended the opening ceremony on the same day.

In his address, Dodik said that it is an important day for the Serbian Republic. The establishment of the Confucius Institute will be conducive to promoting personnel exchanges and economic and trade activities between the Serbian Republic and China .

Zhao Haishan said that exchanges and mutual learning among different cultures and mutual understanding among peoples are important ways to promote the development of civilization and social progress. Confucius Institutes, on the other hand, are the bonds of language exchange and a platform for mutual learning.

Chen Bo said that he is pleased to see Chinese officially become the statutory second foreign language of primary and secondary schools in the country, and hoped the Confucius Institute would not only successfully run its own programs but also help primary and secondary schools in the Serbian Republic carry out Chinese teaching.

The Confucius Institute at University of Sarajevo was formally established in 2015 and is the first Confucius Institute in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
