Philadelphia University (Jordan) Celebrates Chinese Spring Festival with Wonderful Activities

On January 18th local time, Philadelphia University, located in the suburbs of Jerash, Jordan, had its studio well-decorated with lanterns and colored hangings, with a happy and peaceful atmosphere pervading the whole studio. The first event of “2018 Happy Spring Festival” activities in Jordan—“Silk Road Connects People’s Hearts Together” 2018 Chinese Spring Festival Celebration of Philadelphia University, was held.

At the celebration, Mutaz Sheikh Salem, President of the university, said the university has been approved to offer Chinese language and literature courses for undergraduate students in 2017, which is now officially opened for registration. As the only Jordanian university running the Confucius Institute with China, Philadelphia University has always been devoted to promoting Chinese language teaching and China-Jordan friendship.

Pan Weifang, Chinese Ambassador to Jordan, who also attended the celebration, sent the Spring Festival greetings to teachers and students of both China and Jordan. He told hundreds of Jordanian students that the two governments of China and Jordan have officially signed an agreement on the establishment of a Chinese cultural center in Jordan this month. After the completion of the center, everyone is welcomed to participate in the activities to enjoy the charm of Chinese culture.

In the following art performances, teachers and students from the Confucius Institute at Philadelphia University performed group shows such as Tai Chi, cucurbit flute playing, Chinese poetry reading, Chinese-Arabic speeches and other programs. Before the celebration, Pan went to the library of the university to cut the ribbon for the opening of the lending section for Chinese-language books.

The Confucius Institute at Philadelphia University was launched in September 2012 and is co-organized by Philadelphia University (Jordan) and Liaocheng University in China.
