Winners of the Chinese Singing Contest of the Confucius Institute at Assumption University

On December 1st, the Confucius Institute at Assumption University in Bangkok held a Chinese singing contest where a total of 128 students from 42 schools in Thailand took part.

The contest consisted of four sections, namely, the young children section, the primary school section, the secondary school section and the university section, among which the competitions in the primary school section and the secondary school section were the fiercest. All the participants, boasting amazing strength, presented the audience with a feast of wonderful Chinese songs, making the contest a brilliant performance.

The lovely first prize winner of the young children section sang Butterfly Flower, while the champion of the primary school section presented Girls of Ali Mountain. The first prize winners of the secondary school section and the university section sang the magnificent Shanghai Tan and The Great Wall in My Heart respectively. Besides classic Chinese songs that are popular among the public, many participants from the secondary school section and the university section also performed to the audience modern Chinese pop songs as well as the opening songs and ending songs of hit TV dramas and movies, revealing to the full the influence of Chinese pop culture in Thailand.

Zhao Peiqin, Chinese Director of Confucius Institute at Assumption University, expressed that through organizing Chinese singing contests, they hope to provide a platform for Thai students who love Chinese songs to show themselves and communicate with others. They also hope to motivate the students to learn Chinese while they are enjoying melodic Chinese songs, which will improve the students’ Chinese proficiency and deepen their understanding of Chinese culture gradually.

Siriluk Chaiprompasit, Thai Director of Confucius Institute at Assumption University, said that as young people like singing, they hope to further develop the students’ interest in learning Chinese by organizing such Chinese singing contests.

The Confucius Institute at Assumption University was co-established by Assumption University of Thailand and Tianjin University of Science and Technology of China in September 2015.
