Confucius Institute at Okayama Shoka University Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary

On November 18th, the Confucius Institute at Okayama Shoka University, Japan, celebrated its 10th anniversary at the Okayama Symphony Hall. Participants of the activity included Masao Omori, Mayor of Okayama, Hu Zhiping, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Japan, Kageyama Tuguaki, President of Okayama Prefectural Japan-China Friendship Association, Kurose Joki, President of the Okayama Japan-China Association, representatives of Confucius Institutes at Kansai Gaidai University as well as other universities and Confucius Classrooms and more than 200 local people.

In his speech, Akio Ijiri, Council Director of the Confucius Institute at Okayama Shoka University and President of Okayama Shoka University, reviewed the development of the Confucius Institute at Okayama Shoka University in the past decade and hoped that guests form all circles will continue to support the institute in the future.

Hu Zhiping in his remarks acknowledged the contributions of the Confucius Institute at Okayama Shoka University to Chinese language teaching and the promotion of Chinese culture in the past ten years and the efforts made to the friendship between China and Japan. He also presented a vase of Chinese Red Peony as a gift to Akio Ijiri for congratulation.

Masao Omorisaid in his speech that the development of the Confucius Institute in the past decade is hard-earned and hoped that the Confucius Institute will press ahead in the next ten, twenty and even fifty years so as to score greater development.

Ma Jianfei, Deputy Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters and Deputy Director-General of Hanban, and Liu Hong, President of Dalian University of Foreign Languages sent messages of congratulation for the ceremony. In his letter, Ma Jianfei hoped that the Confucius Institute at Okayama Shoka University will achieve even better results in the future, thus making new contributions to the friendship between China and Japan.

Liu Hong mentioned in his letter that he believed the Confucius Institute at Okayama Shoka University will surely continue to develop and gain greater achievements through joint efforts and close collaborations between Okayama Shoka University and Dalian University of Foreign Languages.

At the traditional cultural performance on that afternoon, the Students Art Troupe of Dalian University of Foreign Languages brought a wonderful musical feast to the local people. The performance began with the guzheng solo Western Capriccio, which impressed the audience with the glamour of traditional Chinese musical instruments. In addition to Chinese musical instrument plays, the troupe also presented folk dance performances, revealing the essence of Chinese traditional arts to their fullest.
