Confucius Institute at Frankfurt University Holds Unveiling Ceremony of Nishan Library and Photo Exhibition “Hometown of Confucius, Shandong China”

On November 19th, local time, the Confucius Institute at Frankfurt University, the Information Office of Shandong Province and China International Book Trading Corporation, a subsidiary of China International Publishing Group, jointly held the unveiling ceremony of Nishan Library and the Photo Exhibition “Hometown of Confucius, Shandong China”. Chen Zheng, Vice Consul of the Chinese Consulate-General in Frankfurt, Wang Jingling, Foreign Director of the Confucius Institute at Frankfurt University, Dorothea Wippermann, the professor of the Institute of Chinese Studies at Frankfurt University and former Director of the Board of Directors in the Confucius Institute at Frankfurt University, Huang Yulong, Legal Representative of China International Book Trading Corporation and other guests from all circles of both China and Germany were present at the ceremony.

The ceremony started amidst a melodious folk music performance. Chen Zheng, in his speech, first extended his congratulations on the opening of the first German Nishan Library in Frankfurt. He stated that cultural exchange was a two-way communication and hoped that the institute as well as Nishan Library would seize the opportunity to integrate resources and tell China’s stories well.

In her speech, Wang Jingling said that the opening of the first German Nishan House was of great significance, and could facilitate exchanges of philosophical thoughts between China and Germany. The institute, located in the hometown of Goethe and the birthplace of the Frankfurt School, would play its role as a bridge to better connect the two cultures and promote non-governmental exchanges between the two cultures.

Huang Yulong said that as a platform for exchanges between Chinese and foreign cultures, the Nishan Library would help to spread Chinese culture to other parts of the world as well as to introduce the achievements of world civilizations to China, so as to promote cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and other civilizations.

Some students from the Students Repertory Theater of the Confucius Institute at Frankfurt University recited parts of The Analects of Confucius with a German translation, which demonstrated their keen interest and deep understanding of Confucian thoughts, and their performance was well received by the audience. Three of the young performers had participated in the “Chinese Bridge” Competition in Germany and won prizes. One of them, Fiedler Fritz, won the first prize in the German Division of the 16th Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony of “Hometown of Confucius, Shandong China” Photo Exhibition

After the unveiling ceremony, the Confucius Institute also held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Photo Exhibition “Hometown of Confucius, Shandong China”. The photo exhibition, which covers natural scenery, folk customs, economy, science and technology, tourism and other aspects in Shandong, will last until December 20th. The exhibition fully demonstrates rich accretion of culture in Shandong, hometown of Confucius.
