On September 9th local time, the Joint Conference of Asian Confucius Institutes along the Belt and Road was held in Bangkok Thailand, attracting a total of 250 representatives from all the 77 Confucius Institutes and 14 Confucius Classrooms in the 30 countries along the route, relevant Chinese universities and educational institutions in other countries, the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, relevant governmental departments of Thailand and Chinese-funded enterprises to attend the conference.

As of now, the Confucius Institute Headquarters has set up 135 Confucius Institutes and 129 Confucius Classrooms in 51 countries among all the 64 countries along the "Belt and Road". Of all the Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms, 77 institutes and 79 classrooms were set up in 30 Asian countries.

During the conference, the Confucius Institute and Thailand-China Rayong Industrial Zone signed a strategic cooperative partnership agreement. This is the institute’s new measure to practice the Belt and Road Initiative. The Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute at Phranakhon Rajabhat University, which is co-established by Dali University of China and Phranakhon Rajabhat University, will carry out the specific projects in the agreement.

The cooperation between the Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute and Rayong Industrial Zone is not only a new attempt to respond to the Belt and Road Initiative, but also serves as a contributor to the construction of the Eastern Thailand Economic Corridor. The Confucius Institute will not only provide Chinese language training to executives and employees in Thailand and from other countries, but also actively implement China-Thailand cultural exchanges. By setting up vocational training platforms, the Confucius Institute can offer opportunities of internship, field practice and employment to students from both Chinese and Thai universities, so as to enhance educational, cultural, and economic and trade cooperation between China and Thailand.

Thailand-Chinese Rayong Industrial Zone is located in Rayong along the east coast of Thailand. It is now the largest Chinese industrial zone in Thailand, as well as Southeast Asia. Through 12-plus years’ development, around one hundred Chinese enterprises have operated in the industrial zone, bringing about 30 million US dollars of Chinese investment to the Thai economy. At present, there are more than 6000 Chinese and around 30,000 Thais working in the industrial zone.
