According to a report on the official website of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine on August 31st, the ministry hopes to enhance cooperation with China to improve Chinese language teaching quality in Ukraine.

It is reported that when Andriy Shevtsov, Director of the Attestation of Qualifications and Licensure at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine introduced situations about strengthening China-Ukraine cooperation in Chinese language teaching and other fields. He expressed that the ministry is cooperating with educational institutes in China to establish a permanent mechanism for improving elementary Chinese language teaching in Ukrainian primary and secondary schools so that Chinese language teachers in Ukrainian primary and secondary schools could get opportunities to study in Chinese universities at regular intervals to improve both their Chinese and Chinese teaching.

In recent years, more and more Ukrainians rush to learn Chinese. Demands of universities and adult education for Chinese language education have increased substantially and such a trend has even affected the nation’s elementary education such as primary and secondary schools. However, Ukraine lacks Chinese language teaching resources, which fails to meet huge social demands.

Shevtsov said that in order to provide more Chinese language teaching resources and continuously improve Chinese language teaching quality, the ministry is now in close cooperation with organizations such as Hanban and the Confucius Institutes in Ukraine, hoping to formulate a Chinese language teaching syllabus suitable for Ukrainian primary and secondary schools, work out a standardized test mechanism for evaluating Chinese language proficiency and compile Chinese teaching materials with support from the Chinese side.
