6th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Russian University Students Successfully Concludes

On May 26th local time, sponsored by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and organized by the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy in Russia and the Confucius Institute at Kazan Federal University (KFU), the 6th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Russian University Students was held in Kazan Federal University. 30 contestants of six teams from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan and other cities attended the contest. Riyaz Minzaripov, First Vice-Rector of KFU, Zhao Guocheng, Minister Counselor of the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy in Russia, Wu Yingqin, Consulate-General of the Chinese Consulate in Kazan, and more than 600 teachers and students of KFU watched the competition.

Riyaz Minzaripov, Zhao Guocheng, Wu Yingqin and Ramil R. Khairutdinov, Director of the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies respectively delivered speeches. They welcomed the guests, encouraged and praised the contestants, hoping all teams could show their styles and high-level performance and wishing this contest a complete success.

As a team tournament, the competition had four sections: “collective conversation”, “impromptu speech”, “talent show” and “ knowledge Q&A”. After a section concludes, the judges would give marks, and only five contestants went to the final round.

In the collective conversation, the teams interpreted the topic of speeches in a wonderful and innovative way. The Kazan team explained the audience on "paper reading and e-reading, which is better?" with stimulated TV program recording. Besides the discussion on "high-speed rails connecting the world", the members of the Novosibirsk team also led in several Sichuan-Chongqing dialects, wining universal applause.

The impromptu lecture is a test of the thinking ability and Chinese level of the contestants. They confidently stood in front of the microphone, effusively talked about the topics that are randomly selected, which fully demonstrated their level of outstanding Chinese knowledge, wining over the judges and the audience.

In the talent show, the contestants showed their capabilities. Renata, a Kazan contestant brought a beautiful Chinese song "You Exist in My Song". Oliya, an Irkutsk contestant presented with elegant moves and gentle voice a quintessence of Chinese culture "Farewell My Concubine". Ruslan, a contestant from Novosibirsk recited Nian Nu Jiao • Memories of the Past at Red Cliff and showed calligraphy. Their wonderful Chinese talent shows won a burst of applause.

In the last session, five contestants competed in required questions and quick-response questions sections. Bassa, a contestant from Novosibirsk won the championship and the Kazan team won the Best Group Award.

There is not just intense competition, but also fantastic performances in the competition, including the Chinese song "Fly Higher" presented by Kazan singer Maxime with his band, the martial arts show "Mactep shifu" performed by dance team Virtus Crew, Chinese music quartet, martial arts show, acrobat performance and so on. The actors in cheongsams or Han Chinese Clothing brought the audience an audio-visual feast.

Amid Maxime’s song "Dream is Burning", the 6th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Russian University Students successfully concluded. In this competition, the contestants demonstrated excellent Chinese level, showed the long-standing Chinese culture, and enhanced the China-Russia friendship and exchanges. It is hoped that the increasingly popular Chinese can open dreams and lighten the future.
