Final of Peru 2017 “AECP-Liqun” Chinese Bridge Concludes

Peru 2017 AECP-Liqun “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for College and High School Students was held in Lima, the capital of Peru on June 3rd, local time. The contest was jointly sponsored by the Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban and the Chinese Embassy in Peru, organized by the Confucius Institute at University of Ricardo Palma, Association of Chinese Enterprises in Peru and China Tobacco Zhejiang Industrial Co., Ltd and co-organized by the Confucius Institutes at Catholic University of Santa María and the Confucius Institute at University of Piura. There were seven college students and six high school students entering this competition.

Jia Guide, Chinese Ambassador to Peru, Kong Aimin, President of Association of Chinese Enterprises in Peru and Chinese and foreign directors of four Confucius Institutes in Peru were present at the contest. Hundreds of people from all walks of life watched this contest.

The contest consisted of three sections, namely, keynote speeches themed on “Dreams Enlighten the Future”, Q&A on national conditions of China and Chinese talent show. In the speech session, contestants talked about their dreams with emotion in fluent Chinese. In the Q&A session, contestants were confident facing questions rose by the host and showed their good mastery of Chinese culture. Also, contestants presented wonderful talent shows with variety and innovation. Chinese talents such as Chinese song and dance, martial arts, monologue comic talk and drama amazed the audience. Chang Sheng, a contestant from University of Ricardo Palma, performed Taiji Fan Dance Heaven and Earth, with firm but gentle performance, showing the essence of Taiji. Alice, a contestant from the same university, performed Chinese Dancer on the Music Box, vividly showing the power of Mongolian dance as well as the grace of classical dance.

After fierce competition, Alice and Chang Sheng respectively won the first and third place of college students’ group. The University of Ricardo Palma has been the champion of Chinese Bridge Contest for three consecutive years. Kong Fu boy Song Mingren from Colegio Peruano Chino Diez de Octubre was the winner of high school students’ group.

In the awarding ceremony, Jia Guide expressed gratitude to the sponsors, organizers and contestants. He said that China-Peru relations are increasingly close. The pressing demands of bilateral cooperation together with the improved Chinese language teaching stimulate an emerging hit of learning Chinese. He hoped that these young people could become the envoys of China-Peru friendship, and contribute their own strengths to cultural exchanges.

As Rosa Filipchuk, Peruvian Director of the Confucius Institute at University of Ricardo Palma said, Chinese Bridge is a good platform for students to gain an easier access to Chinese culture, to show their Chinese and to increase their interests in learning Chinese.
