On May 24th local time, in collaboration with the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development, the Tourism Confucius Institute at Griffith University in Australia held Beijing tourism promotion forum at Nathan campus. Jiang Jiqing, the representative of Consul-General of the Chinese Consulate-General in Brisbane and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Consulate-General, Wang Jiheng, Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Consulate-General, and Yu Debin, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development attended the forum. Leaders of tourism industry from the main cities of Queensland including Brisbane, Gold Coast, Cairns, Logan and Ipswich as well as representatives from local political, business and academic circles and teachers and students from Griffith Business School and Griffith Institute for Tourism were present as well.

Jiang Jiqing noted that in both Queensland and Beijing, tourism industry takes a great proportion in GNP. Queensland is one of the most favorite tourist destinations among Chinese people. This year coincides with the China-Australia Year of Tourism, and we warmly welcomed the visit of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development, which is expected to promote tourism communication and development of the two sides.

Yu Debin introduced tourism development of Beijing and a series of preferential policies including visa-free traveling and tax rebate promulgated implemented by the Chinese government and the Beijing Municipal Government for overseas tourists, and sincerely invited Queensland tourists to visit Beijing.

Wang Rui, a marketing specialist of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development made a refreshing and highly interactive promotion presentation covering Beijing’s tourism resources, municipal transport, delicacies, the cultural tourism resources, the special Traditional Chinese Medicine of health care tours, preferential policies and other aspects.

Dr. Liobafrom Griffith, from the Institute for Tourism and Lisa Bell, a senior student at the Confucius Institute were invited to share their travel experience in Beijing.

Later, the unveiling ceremony of Beijing Tourism Virtual Experience Center at the Tourism Confucius Institute was held by the sponsors. Prof. Liao Lianghao, Foreign Director of the Tourism Confucius Institute and Yu Debin jointly inaugurated the center where audience tried virtual tour of Beijing one after another. Besides, the Tourism Confucius Institute announced that three featured tourism projects, namely the Three-Day Beijing Tour design competition, Australian People’s Favorite Beijing Tourist Attraction Contest and the Australian Tour Manager’s China Tour, will be coming soon and all the attendees are welcomed.

On-site interaction during the promotion forum

Outside the forum venue, the Tourism Confucius Institute organized the "Charming Beijing" Photography Exhibition, which attracted the eyes of attendees and numerous teachers and students. Tao Hongyi and Huang Yanan, two volunteers of the Tourism Confucius Institute, brought instrumental ensemble of bamboo flute and Pipa which added strong Chinese rhyme to the exhibition.

The organization of the Beijing tourism promotion forum strengthened exchanges and cooperation between tourism industries of Beijing and Queensland, served as a bridge and a link of communication for the two tourism industries, and highlighted the features of the Tourism Confucius Institute at Griffith University.
