Yang Shichao, Political Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University, Liu Jianping, Vice President of Hebei University of Economics and Business, Wang Shengli, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University, and hundreds of teachers and students from the Confucius Institute attended the activities.

Yang Shichao introduced that in 2007, Kathmandu University and Hebei University of Economics and Business established the first Confucius Institute in Nepal, which was also the first comprehensive educational institution in Nepal that integrates Chinese language teaching, teacher training and the dissemination of Chinese culture. "To learn about a country, language is the best key. Starting from scratch, the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University has made great progress and remarkable achievements over the past decade." he said.

Yang Shichao also said that due to the lack of professional organizations, teachers and textbooks, it had been difficult for Nepalese people to learn Chinese in the past. Since the institute was established, it has made great progress, enabling locals to learn Chinese and come in close contact with Chinese culture.

Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha noted, “The special significance of the 10th anniversary of the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University lies not in just the fact that we have made remarkable achievements in the past, but also the endless hope it could bring in the future”. He also said that the Confucius Institute would become the “Cohesive Core” for academic and cultural exchanges and corporation between China and Nepal in the future.

In his speech, Liu Jianping mentioned that after a ten-year development, the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University has established 4 Confucius Classrooms and 14 teaching sites, cultivating more than 20 thousand students in all. In the recent 10 years, the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University has made remarkable progress in establishing favorable cooperative relations with other universities, enlarging teaching venues, regulating the management systems, enhancing the teaching levels and influence, and other aspects.

At the celebration, the students of the Confucius Institute gave singing and dancing performances including “Ten Years” and “Newari” with both Chinese and Nepalese characteristics.
