Confucius Institute at National University of Mongolia Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary

On June 17th, the Confucius Institute at National University of Mongolia celebrated its 10th anniversary at Ulaan Baatar. Nearly one hundred people were present, including Б.Очирхуяг, Vice President of the National University of Mongolia, Li Wei, Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Mongolia, representatives of Shandong University in China, and faculty and students of the Confucius Institute.

О.Мөнхбат, Board Chairman of the Confucius Institute, read out the congratulatory letter from Ma Jianfei, Deputy Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters. Ma Jianfei expressed in the letter that, as the first Confucius Institute in Mongolia, the Confucius Institute at National University of Mongolia has blazed new trails in a pioneering spirit for the past ten years. At the same time, it has been committed to serving the university and local people, actively engaged in multi-tier and high-level teaching of Chinese language, and hosted many diversified cultural events. It has compiled Chinese textbooks written in Mongol, translated and published books of Sinology studies, and periodically held high-end forums and other academic exchange programs, scoring remarkable achievements and making great contributions to enhancing the friendship between the two peoples.

In his speech, Б.Очирхуяг fully appreciated the contributions made by the Confucius Institute at National University of Mongolia to Chinese language teaching and cultural exchanges in Mongolia. He also reviewed and introduced the achievements which had been made in Chinese language teaching, Sinology studies and cultural exchanges by the institute over the past decade.

Li Wei said that after ten-year hard work, the institute has developed into a base for Chinese language teaching and teachers’ training, an incubator for Sinology studies and cultural diffusion, as well as a HSK center and scholarship recommendation center in Mongolia. It has won a wide popularity, a good reputation and credibility, becoming a flagship of the people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Xing Zhanjun, Dean of Department of Humanities and Social Science of Shandong University, expressed in his speech that based on the university and local communities, the institute actively develops its Chinese language teaching, promotes Chinese culture, and dedicates to the researches on China, making itself a key place of Chinese language teaching and China-Mongolia cultural study in Mongolia, as well as a successful model of Confucius Institutes around the globe.

After that, the directors of Confucius Classrooms at three schools, including Mongolia No.23 Middle School, Hope Middle School and Darkhan Rainbow Middle School, offered gifts to the Confucius Institute. Students from Confucius Classrooms and teaching sites set by the Confucius Institute gave singing and dancing performances featuring both Chinese and Mongolian culture.

The Confucius Institute at National University of Mongolia has elaborately arranged a picture exhibition on the ten-year development and achievements made by the institute, and made video clips and brochures for the event.
