Confucius Institute of Osh State University in Kyrgyzstan Holds Opening Ceremony of Model Confucius Institute Building

On May 31st, local time, the Confucius Institute at Osh State University in Kyrgyzstan held an opening ceremony of the building of the Model Confucius Institute.

Kudaiberdiyeva Gulmira, Minister of Education of Kyrgyzstan, Kadyrbayev Aitmamat, mayor of the city Osh, Zhaparbek Ormonov, Chairman of the Osh City Councilor, Isakov Kanybek, President of the Osh State University, Liang Chao, Secretary of the party committee and Vice Chancellor of Education Department in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and Song Liqun, Chinese Consul-General in Osh and officers of the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban). Over 600 people attended the ceremony, including the faculty and students of the institute, representatives of local Chinese enterprises and people from all walks of life. The event was widely reported by the local media, including the New Observations of Silk Road, Kyrgyzstan National Channel, Kyrgyzstan People’s TV, Osh Bilim TV, Osh Oded Maecker TV, Osh Bagshot TV, and Osh First TV.

In Kudaiberdiyeva Gulmira’s speech, she noted that the “Belt & Road” Initiative has intensified the collaboration between China and Kyrgyzstan, and the construction of the new building contributed to the further educational cooperation of the two countries.

On behalf of the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), Li Hongyu, Deputy Director of the Division of Asian and African Confucius Institutes, announced the greeting letter. The letter spoke highly of the fruitful results the institute achieved in the past four years. Its undergraduate education, cultural activities and “home visit” projects strengthened the people-to-people bond between China and Kyrgyzstan.

Liang Chao said the completion and running of the building of the Model Confucius Institute represented the blood and sweat of the staff of the institute, marking the latest sign of the fruitful results in educational and cultural exchanges between the two countries. The success of the Confucius Institute at Osh State University today, would not be possible without the support from Hanban, the Chinese Consulate-General in Osh, Osh State University, and overseas Chinese in Kyrgyzstan as well as Osh citizens and the government of Kyrgyzstan.

Song Liqun expressed his appreciation to the staff in the Confucius Institute and wished the institute, which had proved to be an eye-catching landmark in the southern area of Kyrgyzstan, a better future.

During the ceremony, the faculty and students from the institute staged the following programs, including the performance of Chinese and Kyrgyzstan music, Kyrgyzstan national dance and Chinese Kungfu. The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new building ended up in warm applause. Later, the guests visited the teaching building as well as the students’ apartments and affirmed fully the “home visit” photo exhibition, student handicrafts exhibition, student painting and calligraphy exhibition and other exhibitions.

The building covers an area of 5000㎡, consisting of two five-story buildings. It is well-equipped with dean’s and teachers’ offices, multimedia classrooms, language labs, Chinese culture exhibition halls, China-Kyrgyzstan culture experience rooms, reading rooms, dining halls, student dormitories, volunteer apartments, gyms, archives, clothing management rooms, auditoriums, training rooms and music classrooms, etc. The establishment of the new building signifies a new stage for the cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and Kyrgyzstan.
