President of Croatia Speaks Highly of the Role as a Bridge of Confucius Institute at University of Zagreb

On May 17th, 2017 local time, the Chinese Embassy in Croatia held a press reception in capital city Zagreb to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Croatia. Teachers and students of the Confucius Institute at University of Zagreb attended the reception and presented well-prepared performances. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, President of Croatia and Hu Zhaoming, Chinese Ambassador to Croatia met with teachers and students of the institute. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic spoke highly of the contribution the institute made to the friendship between the two countries.

At the reception, 25 students from the institute joyfully sang a Chinese children’s song Finding Friends and Croatian folk song “Kad se male rukeslože”. The simple lyrics and well-known melody permeated deep affections for China-Croatia friendship, winning bursts of resounding applause from the audience. The spectacular performances impressed the audience and received thunderous applause. The performances were wonderful and the audience enjoyed a warm atmosphere with incessant rounds of laughter and applauses. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic extended her high praise for the great performances of the teachers and students from the institute.

The show is not only an important opportunity for the institute and people from all works of life in Croatia to jointly celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of China-Croatia diplomatic relations, but also a chance of friendship exchange between the two students. Students expressed their great passion for Chinese language and China. They said that they would spare no efforts to learn Chinese language well and gain a profound understanding of Chinese culture so as to serve as a bridge to promote China-Croatia communication.
