The University of Wrocław, located next to the Oder, held its first Dragon Boat Festival celebration on May 30th.

Teachers from the Confucius Institute at University of Wrocław introduced over 300 elementary and secondary school teachers and students from Chinese language sites to the origin and traditional customs of the Dragon Boat Festival, such as racing dragon boats, eating Zongzi and hanging moxa. They also shared the story of the patriotic poet, Qu Yuan. Inspired by Qu Yuan's great personality, the students expressed their admiration for him through singing and dancing.

Except singing, dancing and tea art performances, there was also a painting competition in which the students showed their impressions on such Chinese images as wild running Chinese dragons, cute pandas, the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac of various shapes and Chinese martial arts. For them, all these images symbolized China.

The organizer of the event, Bogusława Puzowska expressed that the various wonderful activities served as a perfect opportunity for the students to experience and deepen their understandings of Chinese culture.

Wang Hu, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Wrocław, said that the institute would continuously uphold its mission in the future. Apart from improving Chinese teaching, it would hold more, and better, activities, so as to make cultural exchanges start from elementary and secondary schools. The institute widely opens its door to all foreign friends who are interested in Chinese culture and overseas Chinese who have a strong bond with China. It provides a platform of Chinese learning and cultural exchanges for them, facilitating the Chinese outstanding traditional culture to thrive in Poland.
