First Confucius Institute Co-invested by an International Enterprise Unveils Nameplate in Germany

On May 23rd, 2017 local time, the unveiling ceremony of the Audi-Ingolstadt Confucius Institute was held at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI), adding up to 19 Confucius Institutes in Germany.

The Audi-Ingolstadt Confucius Institute, authorized by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), was jointly established by Audi Group, the Municipal Government of Ingolstadt, THI and South China University of Technology. It is the first Confucius Institute to be co-founded with an international partner.

Christian LÖSEL, First Mayor of Ingolstadt, Dietmar Voggenreiter, Executive of Audi AG, Prof. Walter Schober, President of THI,, Mao Jingqiu, Consul-General of the Chinese Consulate General in Munich, An Ran, Office Director of the Confucius Institute at South China University of Technology and Director of International Education College, Chinese and foreign directors from over ten Confucius Institutes of Germany, local Chinese and representatives from all circles and over 100 journalists attended the ceremony

Christian LÖSEL introduced the importance of Ingolstadt as the center for China in Bavaria, Germany, and the close cooperation between Ingolstadt and China in economy, culture and education areas. He pointed out that the foundation of Audi-Ingolstadt Confucius Institute has been strongly supported by the municipal government. He hoped that in addition to promoting language and culture, the Confucius Institute will make great achievements in the cooperation of science and technology.

Dietmar said that China is a world-leader in many areas right now, and Chinese people are very proactive with high acceptance capability. Therefore, China and Germany shall deepen cooperation not only in economy, but also in areas of language and culture. He expressed his trust in the crucial role Audi Konfuzius Institut Ingolstadt will play in China-Germany exchanges of culture and language.

Walter SCHOBER noted in his address that, THI has already established cooperative ties with South China University of Technology. The establishment of the Confucius Institute will provide a better platform for and more vitality into the cooperation between the two universities as well as provide more practice opportunities for students of both universities.

On behalf of the Chinese Consulate General in Munich, Mao Jingqiu extended her welcome to all guests attending the unveiling ceremony. She stressed that, Audi Konfuzius Institut Ingolstadt is unparalleled among 500 Confucius Institutes around the world in terms of its unwavering devotion to technology, innovation and sustainable development as well as cooperation in management. With more frequent and closer China-Germany exchanges in economy and trade, Germans’ demand for Chinese language learning and understanding of Chinese culture have continuously increased. She is confident of the future of Audi Konfuzius Institut Ingolstadt.

Performance of tea art

On the same day, Audi Konfuzius Institut Ingolstadt also organized tea art performance, content-rich demonstration teaching of Chinese calligraphy and painting, as well as a fascinating lecture on traditional Chinese medicine. In addition, the Confucius Institute invited a lion dance troupe from Foshan City, Guangdong Province, to perform for local people at the Ingolstadt City Hall Square.
