Li Yuanchao Visits Confucius Institute at Cheikh Anta Diop University

On May 8th local time, Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao, who was on a visit to Senegal, paid a visit to the Confucius Institute at Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) and attended the unveiling ceremony of a new teaching building in the company of Mary Teuw Niane, Higher Education and Research Minister of Senegal, being warmly welcomed by the university, the Chinese and Foreign Director as well as the teachers and students of the institute.

According to Li Yuanchao, UCAD is the first higher education institution in Senegal and one of the African universities that has the largest number of students, and has cultivated many outstanding talents for Africa. With the joint efforts of China and Senegal, the Confucius Institute has actively promoted the spread of Chinese culture and the cultural exchanges between China and Senegal since the day it was co-established by UCAD and China's Liaoning University. It has played a critical role in promoting mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, and is a bond of the China-Senegal friendly cooperation.

Li Yuanchao said that he was touched by Senegalese people’s passion for Chinese culture and kindness to Chinese people. Since the new teaching building of the institute is completed, Senegalese people now enjoys better facilities to acquaint themselves with and learn Chinese culture. Li Yuanchao expressed his gratitude to people from all walks of life in both countries for their support for the Confucius Institute and wished the institute every success in the future. He also hoped that the students in the Confucius Institute would work hard and contribute to the China-Senegal friendship.

Li Yuanchao subsequently watched the performances by the students of the institute and presented the institute with Chinese cultural experience equipment and books about Chinese culture.
