On Apr. 22nd local time, the Confucius Institute in Madrid, Spain held its 10th anniversary celebration.

José María Sanz, President of the Autonomous University of Madrid, Ángel Gabilondo, former Minister of Culture of Spain, Lv Fan, Chinese Ambassador to Spain, Isabel Cervera, as well as Foreign Director of the Confucius Institute in Madrid and Ni Maohua, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute in Madrid attended event.

Lv Fan spoke highly of the language courses and a variety of cultural activities offered and held by the Confucius Institute in Madrid, which he thinks “have shortened the distance between China and Spain, and play a positive role in enhancing people’s mutual understanding and friendship as well as promoting exchanges between the two countries.”

During the celebration, the wonderful martial arts performance by the Martial Arts Association in Madrid, the special dance of Thousand-Hand Bodhisattva performed by Huaxing Art Troupe and the art show carefully rehearsed by teachers and students of the Confucius Institute presented the charm of the Chinese culture, and added a festive atmosphere to the celebration.

In 2007, as the first Confucius Institute in Spain, the Confucius Institute in Madrid officially began its schooling. At present, there are six Confucius Institutes in Spain with nearly 10,000 registered students. Furthermore, in Spain, more than 40 universities and more than 200 primary and secondary schools are offering Chinese language courses. The number of students in Spain who participate in the Chinese proficiency test HSK has been the highest among all European countries since 2012. The Confucius Institute in Madrid will make further efforts to improve its teaching of Chinese language, enrich Chinese cultural activities and improve Chinese proficiency test services to better meet the needs and maintain the growing local enthusiasm for learning the language.
