On Apr. 5th, 2017, the Preliminary Round in Thailand of the 16th“Chinese Bridge”Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students concluded successfully. 19 top ranking finalists from Thailand took part in the final. Ms. Aurasa Pavavimol, Assistant Secretary-General of Office of Higher Education Commission of Thailand, and Zhou Gaoyu, First Secretary of Education Section of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand and others attended the event.

Ms. Aurasa Pavavimol reviewed the excellent performances of the previous contestants in “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students in her speech. She encouraged contestants to cherish the opportunity and make persistent efforts to make brilliant achievements in the upcoming finals in China.

With the same theme of “Dreams Enlighten the Future” as last year, in this competition, the contestants, besides their excellent performances in keynote speech, made wonderful showcase in Q&A part about the knowledge of China. While in the talent show, the brilliant performances of the contestants won bursts of resounding applause from the audience, bringing the competition to one climax after another.

After fierce competition, Mr. Komgrit Wattanapakdewong from the University of The Thai Chamber of Commerce won out with a high score in the keynote speech by right of his high spirits and favorable stage manners. In the talent show session, he beat the pack with his fabulous role playing of a female character in Peking opera Celestial Beauty Scattering Flowers and skillful aria. Topping the Thailand qualifier, he will go to China to take part in the semifinal and final of the 16th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students.

Ms. Marisa Onking from Confucius Institute at Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University won the first prize of the Thailand qualifier with her affectionate personal narrative entitled “Chinese Interpreter Dream” in the keynote speech and great performance of Huangmei Opera Emperor’s Female Son-in-law in the talent show.

At the closing ceremony, Mr. Zhou Gaoyu congratulated the winners of the competition and encouraged all contestants to carry forward China-Thailand friendship and jointly create a better future through increasingly close cooperation and communication. He hoped that the winners can add brilliance to their achieved splendor in the finals and thanked the Office of Higher Education Commission of Thailand, the Competition Jury, and staff of Organizing Committee for their hard work.
