Book Fairs in Countries along “Belt and Road” Debuts at Bangkok
On Mar. 29th, the 2017 Book Exhibition in Countries along the “Belt and Road” hosted by China National Publications Import & Export (Group) Corporation (CNPIEC) made its debut at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Bangkok, Thailand. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visited the exhibition and was attracted by the elaborate Chinese books and various traditional Chinese cultural performances. She lingered among the booths for a long time, reading some books and particularly Xi Jinping: The Governance of China.

The exhibition had six booths of different categories of books, including contemporary China, traditional cultures, humanities and social sciences, literature, children’s books, and language learning. More than 300 volumes of nearly 300 different books in Chinese, English and Thai were exhibited, opening a window for people in Thailand and other areas of South-East Asia to have a deeper understanding of China’s developmental status and culture. A special booth of “best-selling literature works in China” was also set up in light of the Thai readers’ preferences, displaying young people’s literature works, online novels and inspirational books with a view to drawing the two peoples closer and enhancing interactions through cultural exchanges.

During the exhibition, CNPIEC and the Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University (CICU) also organized a series of cultural exchange activities including traditional Chinese tea ceremony, Chinese chess contest, demonstration of knitting handicrafts and artistic facial masks painting, allowing local citizens to experience the unique charm of Chinese cultures in person.
With their debuts at the exhibition, the CICU and China Publishing Group together ensured a successful close of the series of activities celebrating the 10th birthday of the CICU.
