Confucius Institute of Pisa Plays a Connecting Role in the Signing of Cooperation Agreement on China-Italy Innovation Industrial Park

On Feb. 22th, at the witness of President Sergio Mattarella of Italy and President Xi Jinping, the signing ceremony of China-Italy Innovation Industrial Park co-established by Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, Chongqing University and the Bishan District of Chongqing was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Perata, Rector of Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, Zhou Xuhong, President of Chongqing University, and Mu Huaping, Vice Mayor of Chongqing signed the cooperation agreement.

Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies and Chongqing University are collaborating institutions of the Confucius Institute of Pisa. At the end of June, 2016, at the annual council of the Confucius Institute of Pisa, Meng Weidong, Vice President of Chongqing University, and his delegation discussed with Vice President of the Tuscany region in Italy, heads of Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies and University of Pisa, and Chinese and Italian Directors of the Confucius Institute, to reach a plan of establishing the China-Italy Innovation Industrial Park. Through the joint efforts of all sides, the three parties reached consensus on the major issue of the settlement of China-Italy Innovation Industrial Park in Bishan High-tech Industrial Development Zone of Chongqing and signed a cooperation agreement at the end. The three parties will focus on virtual reality, biomedicine, life science, industrial design and other fields to carry out future cooperation in joint research, personnel training, technology transfer, incubation of results, industrial development and other aspects.

During the signing of the cooperation agreement, the Confucius Institute of Pisa has been serving as a bridge and link. Perata spoke highly of the work of the Confucius Institute. He said that Confucius Institutes promote extensive cooperation in education, science and technology, economy, industry and other aspects between universities, regions and even countries, as well as the involvement of enterprises and governments in such cooperation. As Zhou Xuhong said, since the establishment of the Confucius Institute of Pisa in 2007, it has become a cooperation base between Chongqing University and Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies and a model of international cooperation.

Before the signing ceremony, Perata and his delegation visited Hanban, and they were received by Ma Jianfei, Deputy Director-General of Hanban and Deputy Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters. Perata thanked Hanban for its support to the Confucius Institute of Pisa and said that he would strongly support the work of the Confucius Institute. Ma Jianfei fully affirmed the work of the Confucius Institute of Pisa, hoping that the Confucius Institute will make greater contributions to promoting the cooperation in education, culture, science and technology and industrial development between China and Italy.
