Confucius Institute Offers Chinese Classes at Philippine Presidential Palace

Confucius Institute at Angeles University Foundation officially launched Chinese classes at the Malacanang Palace of the Philippines recently, teaching Chinese to the officials of the Presidential Communications Operations Office and those of its subordinate institutions.

Dr. Zhang Shifang, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Angeles University Foundation, told reporter on Jan. 2nd that the Confucius Institute offers four Chinese classes at the Malacanang Palace and the Quezon Office of the Presidential Communications Operations Office, and the students include 127 staff from the Presidential Communications Operations Office and its subordinate institutions including the Philippine Information Agency, the National Printing Office, and the National Publications Office. Seeing the service features of the Presidential Communications Operations Office, the Confucius Institute at Angeles University Foundation has worked out a special teaching plan, which is to teach Chinese, traditional Chinese culture, contemporary China and other relevant contents four hours a week.

It is learnt that Secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office Martin Andanar and President of Angeles University Foundation Joseph E. L. Angeles have signed the agreement on offering Chinese classes, in a hope to boost mutual understanding and cooperation between China and the Philippines.

Confucius Institute at Angeles University Foundation was established in 2010, and its Chinese cooperative institution is Fujian Normal University. Since it became an official cooperation partner for the Chinese Language Program of the Philippine Department of Education in 2011, the Confucius Institute at Angeles University Foundation has been endeavoring to promote Chinese language teaching and Chinese culture transmission in the mainstream society of the Philippines. Dr. Zhang said that teaching Chinese at the Malacanang Palace this time holds profound significance since it fully embodies language’s important role as a bridge for mutual understanding.
