Jalal-Abad City, located in southern Kyrgyzstan, is one of the important cities along the ancient Silk Road. In recent years, Kyrgyzstan's "Chinese fever" has arisen as the exchanges and cooperation between China and Kyrgyzstan become much closer in politics, economy and culture. In 2010, Xinjiang University and Jalal-Abad State University signed a cooperation agreement, formally establishing a Chinese teaching base subordinated to the Confucius Institute at Bishkek Humanities University. In 2013, the two universities signed an inter-university agreement, planning to jointly build a Confucius Institute. In April 2016, Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) officially signed a cooperation agreement on establishing the Confucius Institute with Jalal-Abad State University.
