Madam Xu Lin awarded Hungarian Knight’s Cross
On behalf of the government of Hungary, Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, bestowed the Knight’s Cross of Hungary on Madam Xu Lin, Counsellor of the State Council of China and Member of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on November 30th, in recognition of her remarkable contributions to promoting Chinese language teaching and Chinese culture, strengthening bilateral people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and Hungary as well as facilitating the friendship between the two peoples.

While addressing the event, on behalf of the Hungarian government, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó expressed his gratitude to Madam Xu Lin for her unremitting efforts to boost Sino-Hungarian bilateral exchanges. He pointed out that people-to-people and cultural exchanges served as a foundation for cooperation between the two countries and that a good command of each other’s language and understanding of each other’s culture played a crucial part. With Madam Xu’s vigorous support, Hungary provides Chinese language education for students from Grade One of primary school to university.
Hungarian Ambassador to China Cecília SZILAS (with Qi Li as her Chinese name) delivered a congratulatory speech at the event. She noted that Madam Xu Lin, as Director General of Hanban and Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters, lent strong support to the development of cultural ties between China and Hungary, pushed forward bilateral cultural exchanges and made major contributions to facilitating Chinese language learning and deepening the understanding of Chinese culture in Hungary.
The Knight’s Cross of Hungary, one of the highest decorations awarded by the Hungarian government, is conferred on the representative figures who have made outstanding contributions to Hungary and all mankind.
