Confucius Institute Teacher Recruitment and Training Center of Zhejiang Province officially inaugurated
On Oct. 28th, the 2016 Zhejiang Provincial Conference on the Work of Confucius Institutes and Inauguration Ceremony for the Confucius Institute Teacher Recruitment and Training Center of Zhejiang Province, sponsored by the Department of Education of Zhejiang Province and hosted by Zhejiang Normal University, was held at Zhejiang Normal University. Around 40 people attended this event, including Xia Jianhui, Deputy Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Deputy Director General of Hanban; Yu Yongming, Vice-Director of the Department of Education of Zhejiang Province; Jiang Guojun, President of Zhejiang Normal University; and representatives from the other 13 CI Chinese partner institutions in Zhejiang Province.

Speaking at the event, Xia Jianhui pointed out that the Confucius Institute is playing an increasingly important role as a platform in people-to-people exchanges, cultural communication and economic and trade ties. He hoped that universities in Zhejiang would take the establishment of the Confucius Institute Teacher Recruitment and Training Center as a great opportunity to overcome the bottleneck in teacher recruitment which is holding back the development of the Confucius Institute. He emphasized that all universities should value and strengthen their country-specific and targeted measures in developing the Confucius Institute, so as to ensure its sustainable development. He also hoped the Center would contribute to the African studies at Zhejiang Normal University and serve as a think tank to offer valuable advice for the development of the Confucius Institute.

Yu Yongming stated in his remarks that the Department of Education of Zhejiang Province would actively create favourable conditions to offer its full support for the work of the Center. He also urged the Center to take the improvement of Chinese language teaching quality as its core mission and give full play to its role in teacher recruitment and exchange for the Confucius Institute. He hoped that Zhejiang Normal University, which manages and supervises the Center, can integrate and use resources effectively to fulfil major tasks of the Center.

In his speech, Jiang Guojun noted that Zhejiang Normal University would strengthen the development of the Center and focus on creating a platform for exchanging and sharing resources, personnel, information and experience. He also hoped that this conference would push forward the international promotion of Chinese language and the development of Confucius Institutes.
At the conference, delegates explained the features of the Confucius Institutes established by their respective universities and shared their experience in the development and management of Confucius Institutes. They also conducted in-depth discussions on such issues as recruitment of Chinese directors, Chinese language teachers and volunteer teachers, remuneration and management of the personnel dispatched from China, cooperation and communication between Chinese and foreign universities, resource integration among the CI partner universities in Zhejiang Province, as well as the development of the Confucius Institute Teacher Recruitment and Training Center as a platform.

Afterwards, Xia Jianhui and Yu Yongming jointly unveiled the nameplate for the Confucius Institute Teacher Recruitment and Training Center of Zhejiang Province, and Yu Yongming and Jiang Guojun presented letters of appointment to Zhao Jinming, a senior professor from Beijing Language and Culture University, and other experts.
In 2015, with the approval by Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), the Department of Education of Zhejiang Province decided to establish the Confucius Institute Teacher Recruitment and Training Center and put Zhejiang Normal University in charge of it. The Center will serve as a platform for coordinating the work on Confucius Institutes, and its major missions include the recruitment and training of teachers for international promotion of Chinese language.
