Finals of 9th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students launched at Yunnan Normal University
On the morning of October 18th, 451 teachers and students from 89 countries participating in the 9th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students gathered at the Hongzhu Plaza of the beautiful Yunnan Normal University to attend the opening ceremony of the finals of this event. After the spectacular opening folk dances, contestant representatives from five continents delivered their vows for the competition and opened up the golden banner which read “Foreign secondary school students hand in hand at Chinese Bridge——let’s pursue our dreams”, marking the official beginning of the finals of this competition in China.
After the ceremony, at the tree-planting activity with the theme of “Chinese language forging a colourful bridge, friendship lasting forever”, all the contestants jointly planted the seed of their hope and let their dreams fly high. In the next 14 days, both Chinese and foreign students will work together to accomplish intense tasks in fierce competition and take part in a variety of cultural exchange activities, jointly building a bridge of culture and friendship connecting the world.
The “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students provides a stage for Chinese-learning youths from various countries to showcase their Chinese skills and creates a platform for mutual learning and exchange, so as to stimulate their enthusiasm and interest in learning Chinese, enhance their understanding of the Chinese language and culture, and strengthen friendship among youths of different countries. Since launched in 2002, this competition has attracted over 1 million youths from more than 110 countries. It has become a renowned event in the field of international cultural and people-to-people exchanges and an important platform for secondary school students to learn Chinese and know more about China, forging a bridge of heart-to-heart communication between youths in China and the rest of the world.
