Confucius Institute in Belgrade, Serbia, celebrates its 10th anniversary of establishment

On October 3rd, the ceremony celebrating the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Confucius Institute in Belgrade, Serbia, was held in the auditorium of the University of Belgrade.

While addressing the event, Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Manchang observed that an increasing number of Serbian students are learning Chinese at present, which is the achievement of the Confucius Institute and contributes to Sino-Serbian friendship. He also expressed the hope that more people would learn the Chinese language in the future.

Radosav Pusic, Serbian Director of the Confucius Institute in Belgrade introduced that over the decade from the establishment of the Confucius Institute in 2006 to now, the number of Chinese language learners has been on the rise, adding that “It is closely related to the growing economic and political influence of China in this region as well as in the world.” Mr. Pusic said, the Confucius Institute aims to teach Chinese language, so as to set up a bridge for cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Officials from Serbian Ministry of Education as well as teachers and students of the Confucius Institute in Belgrade attended the ceremony, which was followed by a Chinese language education seminar for principals of primary and secondary schools in Serbia.

To date, two Confucius Institutes have been established in Serbia. The Confucius Institute in Belgrade was officially inaugurated in August, 2006, whereas the other Confucius Institute was launched at the University of Novi Sad.
