Confucius Institute at University of Rome La Sapienza celebrates its 10th anniversary

On September 20th, local time, the Confucius Institute at University of Rome La Sapienza, Italy, held the ceremony for inaugurating “Model Confucius Institute” and celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Speaking at the event, Eugenio Gaudio, Rector of University of Rome La Sapienza, extended his congratulations to the Confucius Institute at University of Rome La Sapienza, the first one established in Italy, for being listed as one of the first Model Confucius Institutes in Europe, and expressed his strong belief in the Institute’s future.

Counselor Luo Ping from the Chinese Embassy in Italy also extended his warm congratulations to the establishment of the Model Confucius Institute and its remarkable achievements over the past ten years. He also expressed sincere hope that the Confucius Institute would continue to serve as a platform for culture exchanges between people of the two countries, helping fuel the sustainable development of China-Italy comprehensive strategic partnership.

Yan Guohua, Vice President of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), also attended and addressed the ceremony, in which he emphasized that BFSU and University of Rome La Sapienza have achieved fruitful outcomes in their cooperation over the last ten years and the Confucius Institute at University of Rome La Sapienza was an outstanding model among the 22 Confucius Institutes jointly established by BFSU around the world. He hoped that the two universities would conduct exchange and cooperation in a wide range of disciplines and fields in the future. Chinese and Italian directors of the Confucius Institute also delivered their remarks, respectively, and introduced the achievements and development of the Confucius Institutes to the guests.

Afterwards, Eugenio Gaudio, Luo Ping and Yan Guohua jointly unveiled the nameplate and cut the ribbon for the Model Confucius Institute. At the courtyard of the new site of the Confucius Institute, the Taiji fan performance showcased its natural and elegant charm, and many guests were attracted to the brochures and copies of the Confucius Institute magazine on the reception desk.

It is learned that the Confucius Institute at University of Rome La Sapienza has won several honorary titles such as the “Confucius Institutes of the Year” and “Confucius Institute Pioneer”, as well as the Award of Outstanding Contribution to Sino-Italian Friendship.
