From July 21st to 23rd, the Confucius Institute at the University of Khartoum participated in the 1st China-Sudan Friendship Culture Week series of events held jointly by the (Sudanese) Higher Committee for Supervising Sudanese-Chinese Relations and the Chinese Embassy in Sudan. Near 10,000 locals from all circles of society, as well as Chinese citizens living in Sudan, participated in or viewed the events.

The culture week events included a wide variety of activities, including a China-Sudan economic forum, China-Sudan exhibition sports matches, a China-Sudan photo exhibition, and cultural performances. The event was attended by guests such as Sudanese Presidential Assistant and Vice-Chairman of the Higher Committee for Supervising Sudanese-Chinese Relations Awad Ahmed Al-Jaz; Sudanese Presidential Assistant Siddig Mohamed Awad; Minister of Oil and Gas Mohamed Zayed Awad; Culture Minister Tayeb Hassan Badawi; Minister of Roads and Bridges Makawe Mohamed Awad; and Chairman of Sino-Sudanese Friendship Association Ibrahim Moussa.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Khartoum meticulously prepared a photo exhibition on the theme of the “Belt and Road” region, as well as a Chinese handicraft exhibition and a Chinese film and television display, attracting the attention of many Sudanese locals. Special guests including Awad Ahmed Al-Jaz and Siddig Mohamed Awad viewed the CI booths, and accepted interviews from CCTV, Xinhua News and Sudan national television reporters. CI instructors also participated in exhibition sports matches such as cycling, table tennis and sprinting, for which they achieved strong results. During the performances for the closing ceremony, the CI teachers and students put on shows such as kung fu, Tibetan dance and Arabic songs, which were fervently received by the several thousand audience members.

This series of events showcased the friendly ties between China and Sudan, and will aid in promoting the continuous development of friendly collaboration between the two countries. Numerous major Sudan media outlets, including Sudan TV, Blue Nile TV and Al Shorooq TV, provided comprehensive reports throughout the culture week events.
