On June 4th, the “2016 Tajik Chinese Language Teaching Seminar”, jointly hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Tajikistan and the Confucius Institute at Tajikistan Nationality University and co-organized by China Road and Bridge Corporation, kicked off in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan.

This seminar was attended by nearly 100 people, including Mr. Yue Bin, Chinese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Tajikistan. Mr. Zhou Jianjun, Head of Culture and Education Section of the Chinese Embassy, read out the written speech of Mr. Yue Bin, in which he encouraged the Confucius Institutes in Tajikistan and their Chinese teachers to nurture more professionals with a high level of Chinese proficiency, contributing to China-Tajikistan friendship.

At the seminar, Ms. Jia Jingfang, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute, conferred awards upon eight teachers who had won the three-month-long “Tajik Open Class Competition for Chinese Language Teachers”.

Centering on such issues as the current situation of Chinese language teaching in Tajikistan and Chinese language teaching methods, seven experts from Tajik State Institute of Foreign Languages, the Confucius Institute at Mining and Metallurgy Institute of Tajikistan and other tertiary institutions delivered keynote speeches and proposed relevant suggestions concerning Chinese language teaching in the future. Director Jia Jingfang summarized various views that were put forward by the seven experts, gave a report analyzing the development of Confucius Institutes and the current situation of Chinese language teaching in Tajikistan, and introduced major projects of Confucius Institutes.

In the afternoon, four outstanding Chinese language teachers from China and Tajikistan presented open class demonstrations, respectively. After the class, the teachers conducted heated discussions on a host of topics including teaching materials, teaching techniques, class arrangements, student management, teachers’ development, students’ achievements and curriculum setting regarding open classes.

In the midst of the seminar, Ambassador Yue Bin urged the Chinese language teachers from China and Tajikistan to strengthen exchanges and to deeply experience Chinese culture, so as to better propagate knowledge, impart wisdom and resolve doubts for students.

The exhibition of achievements of the Confucius Institute in 2015 was held outside the seminar. The exhibition covered the Chinese language teaching, cultural activities and students’ achievements at each teaching site, which received high praise from the guests.

The Tajik Chinese Language Teaching Seminar, which has become an annual event since 2011, has provided an opportunity for all Chinese teaching institutions in Tajikistan and the Chinese language teachers to conduct full exchanges, playing a significant and positive role in promoting the development of Chinese language teaching in Tajikistan.
