Texas A&M University administers HSK tests at Westlake High School
On April 16, 2016, in order to meet the demand for the number of American students taking Chinese proficiency tests and expanding the relevant services, two instructors from the Confucius Institute HSK Test Center at Texas A&M University, administered HSK tests for 16 students at Westlake High School in Austin.
Austin Westlake High School Library examination setup
The examination room was set up in the library of Westlake High School. From 9:00 to 11:00, eight students took part in the Level II Test; from 13:30 to 15:30, another eight students took part in the Level III Test. All tests were completed with success.
During the test
There are a limited number of HSK applicants in College Station, the home city of Confucius Institute at TAMU, while the surrounding cities, such as Austin, have seen an increasing need with the initiative of Chinese programs at local high schools. Moreover, the long distance for all applicants to travel to take the test in other cities will cause inconvenience, and also hinder their enthusiasm. There is a hope that a sub-test center will be set up in Austin in the future, with either one or two local teachers trained to be competent, independent and responsible for the position to implement test sessions.
