Confucius Institute Headquarters inspection delegation visits Confucius Institute at Suez Canal University
On March 27, Xia Jianhui, Deputy Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Deputy Director General of Hanban, and his delegation carried out inspection at the Confucius Institute at Suez Canal University in Egypt.

The delegation visited the Institute’s Chinese Cultural Center, where Xia Jianhui spoke to the students and teachers who were in the middle of class. He expressed his approval when he learned of how the students often study and discuss Chinese culture here. Afterward, the delegation observed a Chinese language class, and Xia Jianhui again spoke to the students, encouraging them to study Chinese and the culture of China so that one day they can contribute to the friendly relationship between China and Egypt.

At the Institute’s library, the delegation learned in detail about the Confucius Institute at Suez Canal University’s collection of books and teaching materials, in particular the lack of teaching materials targeted at Egyptian students and the difficulty of obtaining such material. Xia Jianhui suggested that cooperation with Confucius Institute Headquarters needs to be strengthened, so that the lack of curriculum materials suited to Egypt at the Confucius Institute at Suez Canal University and its affiliated Confucius Classrooms can be adequately addressed. At the same time, he encouraged the Institute to press home its advantage in terms of Chinese language teachers so as to localize Chinese-language teaching materials for Egypt.

At a forum with the Institute’s instructors, the Institute’s Chinese Director Li Zhenhua summarized the work of the Confucius Institute at Suez Canal University to date. He also said that in the future, with the support of Confucius Institute Headquarters and its partner school in China, Beijing Language and Culture University, the Confucius Institute at Suez Canal University plans to hold more cultural events, carry out more extensive academic exchanges, and continue to expand the influence of the Confucius Institute. At the same time, in cooperation with locally-based Chinese-funded businesses, the Institute also plans to expand its internship program and create more job opportunities for Confucius Institute graduates, further integration with its host university and local society, improve the quality of its educational offerings, and do a better job in social service.

The delegation expressed its approval of the Confucius Institute at Suez Canal University’s work in promoting Chinese culture, expanding Chinese language education access, and its future plans. The delegation also expressed gratitude for the sacrifices and effort of the Institute’s educators. Xia Jianhui says Confucius Institute Headquarters will thoroughly investigate issues raised by the Institute and resolve the problems it currently faces, as well as provide more support for the Institute’s work and provide the best possible service for those who teach Chinese.
