Inauguration ceremony of Confucius Institute at Musashino University held in Japan
On the morning of October 13, the Confucius Institute at Musashino University held its inauguration ceremony. Partnered with Tianjin Foreign Studies University, this Confucius Institute was co-founded by Musashino University and Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban). To date, there are altogether 14 Confucius Institutes and 9 Confucius Classrooms in Japan.
In attendance at the ceremony were over 200 people, including Mr. Xia Jianhui, Deputy Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Deputy Director General of Hanban, Fan Jianmin, Minister-Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Japan, Yamazaki Takaaki, Mayor of Koto-ku, Tokyo, Tanaka Kyosyo and Terasaki Osamu, respectively Board Director and President of Musashino University and Mr. Xiu Gang, President of Tianjin Foreign Studies University.

Mr. Xia Jianhui read the congratulatory letter from Madam Xu Lin, Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Director General of Hanban. In the letter, Madam Xu said that China and Japan enjoy geographic proximity and cultural affinity, and Musashino University’s long-term commitment to its internationalization is greatly impressed. The establishment of the Confucius Institute at Musashino University offers both the students and teachers of the host university and local residents a new platform to learn the Chinese language and understand Chinese culture. “I am convinced that the Confucius Institute, with the concerted efforts of China and Japan, is bound to become the bridge and bond connecting the hearts of the Chinese and Japanese peoples and to make contributions to promoting the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples!” remarked Madam Xu.

In his address, Prof. Tanaka Kyosyo noted that it had been a dream of Musashino University to establish a Confucius Institute for many years. The Confucius Institute will play a significant role in the development of the university and aid the students in gaining deeper insights into Chinese language and culture.
Minister-Counselor Fan Jianmin said with a friendship of over two thousand years between China and Japan, the close ties should be highly treasured by both the two peoples. As an important part of China-Japan educational and cultural exchanges, the Confucius Institute plays a pivotal role in meeting the needs of the Japanese citizens to study Chinese and know about Chinese culture and also in facilitating people-to-people exchange between the two countries.
Mr. Xiu Gang, President of Tianjin Foreign Studies University, expressed his confidence in the sound development of the Confucius Institute. He said that Tianjin Foreign Studies University would lend full support to the growth of the Confucius Institute.

Founded in 1924, Musashino University is a private higher education institution with liberal arts as its strength. The university has 15,000 current students. Driven by the goal of equipping students with an international vision, it has already established cooperative relations with 21 universities around the world, of which seven are in China.
