The Réunion leg of the tour for the 5th Festival of Chinese Films in France comes to a close in the Confucius Institute

On the evening of June 30th local time, the closing ceremony of the Réunion leg of the tour for the 5th Festival of Chinese Films in France took place at a hall at the University of Réunion Island. The event was jointly hosted by the Confucius Institute of Réunion Island and the Federation of Chinese Associations of Réunion Island (La Fédération des Associations Chinoises de la Réunion). The attendees numbered about 500, including Guo Wei, Chinese Consul-General in Saint-Denis, Daniel Thiaw-Wing-Kai, President of the Federation of Chinese Associations of Réunion Island; M·Fauveau, Director of General Services of the University of Réunion Island; presidents of Chinese associations of Réunion Island; guests from various circles; as well as teachers and students in the University of Réunion Island.

At the closing ceremony, student delegates from the Confucius Institute told stories about the Confucius Institute and themselves in Chinese and French. Jenny Law, who just finished her study in South China Normal University, and Rosemont Annabelle, who won the “Most Potential” Award in the preliminary of the 14th Chinese Bridge Competition (2015), sang Chinese songs The Longest Movie (a hit by the superstar Jay Chou) and Juan Zhulian (“Rolled Pearl Curtain”, a pop song of classic Chinese musical beauty) respectively. Their fluent Chinese and excellent singing skills drew warm applause from the audience.

In her speech, Chinese Consul-General in Saint-Denis Guo Wei spoke highly of the Confucius Institute’s teaching achievements. She said that it was of great significance for the Confucius Institute of Réunion Island to hold the closing ceremony of the festival on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the Institute.

The Festival of Chinese Films in France is one of the most important and influential film festivals held abroad by China. From May 11th to the end of June, a total of 10 excellent new films on tour were shown in 12 movie theatres in Réunion Island and six other cities, namely Paris, Lyons, Marseilles, Cannes, Strasbourg, and Biarritz . This film festival was jointly hosted by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People's Republic of China, the Cultural Center of China in Paris and the French Pathé Group. It was also supported by China's Ministry of Culture, the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, the Chinese Embassy in France, the French National Center of Cinema and the municipal government of Paris.
